About Master of Biotechnology

Distilling expertise in the biological sciences and medicine, the biotechnology postgraduate program at Flinders is designed to provide you with advanced theoretical scientific knowledge and strong research training plus an understanding of industry and business issues required for modern biotechnology.

Biotechnology is the use of living organisms, or their cells, to create products or processes. Those organisms may be as simple as bacteria or as complex as whole animals or plants.

Flinders University is a pioneer in biotechnology education in Australia and places a strong emphasis on research training with a 10-month research project.

The law, ethics, society and the environment have great relevance into biotechnology and you will have the opportunity to examine all of these areas as an integral part of the biotechnology program at Flinders.

In addition to teaching, staff run world-class research programs in a wide range of areas of biotechnology, including cancer and immunology research, biomaterials, bio-processing, plant disease resistance and biocontrol, enzyme applications, reproductive technology, therapeutic drug discovery, functional foods, bio-energy, water quality and marine biotechnology.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification or hold a the Graduate Certificate in Leadership in Education or closely related qualification. In addition, applicants must also have no less than two years’ work experience in an organisation.

English Program Requirements

If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers. This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.
