Help shape the global money markets with a Master of Advanced Finance.

The Master of Advanced Finance is for recent graduates or professionals already working in the finance industry. The course provides an opportunity to study the latest theories, practices and models that will shape the future of the sector.

As part of this degree, you will gain advanced insight into global financial markets, funds management, financial planning, money market dealing and business forecasting. Your studies will also have an ethics, environmental and corporate social responsibility focus.

The degree offers practical ways to apply your knowledge through the trading simulation programs run at Monash STARLab. You can also choose to undertake a research pathway, which can act as a pathway to a PhD.

The program is a CFA program partner of the CFA Institute, which awards the international Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Our Master of Advanced Finance will give you insights into the industry, and can also be a research pathway into our competitive doctoral program for those wanting to pursue a PhD.

The study options within this degree offer a variety of distinct pathways, depending on your career aspirations. You can either undertake a master’s coursework degree, with the chance to explore fintech, environmental finance and big data, or pursue a research pathway, which can lead to a PhD. You’ll also learn from leading academics in the field of finance as well as industry experts.

CFA Program Partner
The Master of Advanced Finance covers specialist areas of finance and is a CFA Program Partner of the CFA Institute. As a result, if you also choose to undertake the expert pathway, this course will give you the expertise you need to propel your career, and bring you a step closer to earning CFA credentials.

Entry Requirements

Qualifications

Entry level 1:
96 points to complete
Duration: 2 years full-time, 4 years part-time

An Australian bachelor degree with a major in finance; or an Australian bachelor degree with significant work experience in the finance industry; or an equivalent qualification. Applicants will be ranked accordingly based on their entire academic record, and a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 65 is preferred.

Students wishing to undertake the research pathway must maintain at least a WAM of 80 and be accepted for entry by the Course Coordinator and the Higher Degrees Research Director.

Entry level 2:
48 points to complete
Duration: 1 year full-time, 2 years part-time

An Australian undergraduate honours degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline with a WAM of 65, or equivalent qualification and experience approved by the faculty which has not been used as a basis for entry.

You can meet English entry requirements if you have completed an English subject in your prior secondary studies that is equivalent to an Australian Year 12 level (score requirements also apply). Acceptable English subjects for international qualifications are detailed in the prerequisite subject requirements section below. Other English subjects may be accepted and are assessed on a case by case basis.
