About Business Information Systems

The Master of Business Information Systems (MBIS) prepares you for careers in systems design, planning and management, as well as knowledge and information management. You gain the expertise to design solutions to business information problems, and to offer strategic guidance to organisations that will enhance their management and governance.

As an MBIS graduate, you may find work as a business analyst, systems analyst, consultant, project leader, IT manager or information management specialist.

The MBIS caters to students from a variety of backgrounds. If you do not have previous training in IT, the course includes preparatory units that will give you the IT knowledge needed for the remainder of the course. However, if you already have a degree in IT, you can accelerate your study with an exemption from these preparatory units, or perhaps study further elective units in areas of your choice.

The course gives you an opportunity to explore a wide range of areas, from enterprise systems, information systems design, and business intelligence to IT strategy and project management.

Students wishing to exit early can complete with a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Business Information Systems.

Entry Requirements

Qualifications

Entry level 1:
Duration: 2 years full-time, 4 years part-time (96 points to complete)

An Australian bachelor  degree (or equivalent), not necessarily in IT, with at least a 60% average.

Entry level 2:
Duration: 1.5 years full-time, 3 years part-time (72 points to complete)

An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline relating to information systems or with an information systems major, with completed studies in Java programming, databases, systems analysis and design and an understanding of the major enterprise IT applications and their architectures, including enterprise/transaction processing systems and analytical/ business intelligence systems, with at least a 60% average.

You can meet English entry requirements if you have completed an English subject in your prior secondary studies that is equivalent to an Australian Year 12 level (score requirements also apply). Acceptable English subjects for international qualifications are detailed in the prerequisite subject requirements section below. Other English subjects may be accepted and are assessed on a case by case basis.
