About Master of Health Sciences

This Master of Health Sciences is a research degree that culminates in examination by thesis. Usually, there is no coursework component although coursework may be requested by the Dean to support the research process. Over the course of your studies you will explore the importance of early intervention to avoid costly medical treatment and the rehabilitation of those with chronic conditions and musculoskeletal injuries.

Candidates in the Master's by Research program can undertake their research in either a full-time or a part-time capacity. The maximum time for completion of the Master's by Research (not including periods of approved leave of absence) will normally be two years for a full-time student and four years for a part-time student. The minimum time for completion will normally be one year. The Master's thesis is assessed by external examiners

Each candidate is required to have a minimum of two supervisors who will mentor and direct the candidate throughout the research phase and up to the point the thesis is put forward for examination. Entry Requirements

The following criteria are required for a student to be admitted to the Master's by Research program:

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree from a recognised university, which has been completed at a superior standard and which demonstrates the applicant's potential to undertake and complete research-based study.
  • An equivalent academic background or extensive professional experience that is considered by the Dean of the School to be an appropriate preparation for independent study and research work at Master's level.

An applicant may be required to demonstrate an ability to understand and communicate in both written and spoken English at a level adequate for the purpose of pursuing the program of study or as deemed adequate by the Dean of the School.
