About Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Community Services)

The Bachelor of Applied Social Science Community Services prepares you with theoretical and practical skills necessary to pursue a career in community and public sectors. It delivers effective skills in counselling, social policy, advocacy and welfare, as well as practical experience working with individuals and communities. Upon completion, you may apply for membership in the Australian Community Workers Association, the peak body for community service professionals.
The Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Community Services) is an approved course of the Australian Community Workers Association. Delivered by Jansen Newman Institute (JNI), experts in community services education, this course focuses on practical training while providing a solid grounding in the relevant theory. It includes fieldwork placements, ensuring that you graduate with valuable experience and industry contacts. As a graduate of this course, you'll be able to apply for membership of the ACWA, the peak body for community services professionals.

Entry Requirements

  • Australian Year 12 or equivalent.
  • Broadly relevant work experience (documented e.g. CV), demonstrating a reasonable prospect of success; OR
  • Formal, informal or non-formal study, completed or partially completed, demonstrating a reasonable prospect of success; OR
  • Written submission to demonstrate reasonable prospect of success; OR
  • Discipline specific portfolio (art and/or design) – applicable to Design only. 

International students requirements

  • Australian Year 12 or equivalent; and
  • Academic IELTS 6.0 (no band less than 5.5) or equivalent.

English Program Requirements

Entry to all courses requires proficiency in English under the English Language Proficiency Requirements. International applicants and domestic applicants who have not studied at the secondary level in English must demonstrate that they meet the minimum requirements for English language proficiency, specified by the relevant course as outlined in the Admission Criteria for Torrens University Coursework Programs as listed below.
