About Bachelor of Business with Honours [G4F]

The Bachelor of Business with Honours degree allows students develop a body of research-relevant knowledge, skills and experience as preparation to undertake professional research work and/ or as a pathway into a research-focused Masters degree or Doctorate in the future. Students do this by undertaking research-related coursework, executing an independent research project under the guidance of an academic supervisor, and authoring a research dissertation.

This 1-year full-time or 2-year part-time Honours degree course is offered on-campus at the Hobart campus. The course may also be offered on-campus at the Launceston campus, subject to sufficient enrolment numbers and available supervision. All units include flexible attendance options. The aim of the honours year is to enable students to develop further their interests and research skills and to provide a foundation for postgraduate study in the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics (TSBE).

Entry Requirements

Admission to Honours courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor's degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects and the English language requirements to be eligible for an offer. Admission is conditional on research project and supervisor availability.

English Language Requirements

For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship or prior studies in English in an approved country, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided. See the English Language Requirements page for more information.

Course Specific Requirements

Entry to the Bachelor of Business Honours program is open to students who have completed the Bachelor of Business (or equivalent approved qualification) with an average of distinction or higher in at least 50% of the final year units of the pass degree.

Honours candidates in Management require an average of credit or higher for the 200 and 300 level units forming the relevant major(s) in their degree. Candidates in Management must also have passed the unit BMA331 Marketing Research or an acceptable equivalent unit.

English Program Requirements

  • All methods of meeting University of Tasmania English language requirements have a validity period of 2 years unless involving a country specific qualification as listed below.
  • Each course offered by the University of Tasmania has a minimum English language requirement for entry as listed below. Applicants must also meet the academic entry requirements for each course.
  • Applicants who qualify from a University of Tasmania program, and intend to gain professional registration to become a practitioner in Australia, may need to meet the relevant Professional Accrediting Agency's English language registration standard.
  • In exceptional circumstances or cases not covered by the categories outlined below, multiple forms of evidence may be considered on a case by case basis by the Executive Director, Student Operations in consultation with the Director, Academic Quality and Standards.
  • The University reserves the right to require that any applicant be required to undergo a test of English language.

The BBus (Hons) may lead to a coursework masters degree or to one or both of the research higher degrees - a Master of Commerce and /or a PhD.
