About Master of Applied Information Technology – VU Sydney

The Master of Applied Information Technology (NMIT) is a flexible, accredited course, providing advanced training for students with an IT degree.

Areas of focus include cyber security, machine learning and data science. You’ll build on your computing skills, preparing for senior IT roles. Hands-on, practical classes let you develop and enhance the skills shaped out of theory. This course provides flexibility through face-to-face and online learning.

We focus on solving real-world problems in:

You’ll develop new ideas for the IT field, either through an industry project or research activities designed to lead into a PhD. Our experienced lecturers, excellent research facilities and connections to industry give you the opportunity and support to contribute original and important ideas.

You'll also be able to take part in an industry placement program, helping you kick-start your career.

This course and its research programs are regularly reviewed to ensure current practice and IT industry developments are included.

Entry Requirements

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS You must provide evidence that you have completed an approved English language test, and achieved the result as described below. IELTS (Academic Module): overall score 6.5 (no band less than 6.0) TOEFL internet-based test: overall score 79 (minimum section scores: listening 19, speaking 19, reading 18, writing 22) Pearson Test of English (PTE): overall score 58-64 (no section score less than 50) University of Cambridge – Advanced (CAE): total score of 58 VU English – University Preparation UPU (Undergraduate): Achieved English Language School in Sydney (ELSIS) – EAP 2 (advanced): A grade. RECOGNITION OF PRIOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE STUDIES If you've completed a qualification where English was the primary language of instruction, you may be eligible for an English language exemption. Students who do not meet the English language requirements may choose to undertake an intensive English Language School in Sydney(external link) (ELSIS). ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS Entry into the Master of Applied Information Technology requires you to have completed one of the following: Bachelor/Honours degree: completion of a cognate (similar discipline) Bachelor/Honours Degree; or completion of a non-cognate (any discipline) Bachelor/Honours Degree and a Graduate Certificate in a cognate (similar discipline) field. International: proficiency in the English language as demonstrated by IELTS - overall score of 6.5 and no individual band score less than 6 (or equivalent), and either: postgraduate qualification (AQF8 or higher), or first degree (AQF7) in the following quantitative disciplines: Information Technology, Computer Science, Computing, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, Science, or equivalent. Mature: entry into the program is open to applicants with: postgraduate qualification (AQF8 or higher), or first degree (AQF7) in the following quantitative disciplines: Information Technology, Computer Science, Computing, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, Science, or equivalent. Applicants with any of the following qualifications may apply for up to 48 credits points against specific coursework units (as detailed below): degree in computer science or IT four-year Honours degree in computer science or IT degree or a Graduate Certificate with IT or Project Management units postgraduate qualification with IT or Project Management units combination of qualifications and experience equivalent to one of the items listed above. Your eligibility will be assessed when we receive your complete application.
